MY COACHING FOR YOUMC4Y P. Hoenig

Further training

Lifelong learning is part of who I am – in psychology and organisation just as much as in process and architecture methods.

Why this selection

The list below is long, and there is a reason: it traces a path that began in IT and continued through working with people. In 27 years of IT projects I kept making the same experience – the difficult questions are rarely technical ones. An architecture model can be correct and still not be implemented, because nobody wanted it.

The impulse came from a conflict training course at the Audi Akademie. It made clear to me how much in organisations depends on something that appears in no project plan. That first became individual seminars, then certificate courses, and finally a part-time master's degree in Business Coaching and Change Management.

The certificates are not the purpose in themselves. They are the evidence that I did not merely read these methods in books but practised them under guidance – with feedback from people who were better at it than I was.

What of this reaches you

Qualifications are worth only as much as remains of them in the work. Concretely, this list means:

  • I speak both languages. I can hold a conversation about interfaces and data models as readily as one about role conflicts in a team – and I notice when the one problem is really the other.
  • I work with models, not recipes. Spiral Dynamics, Theory U and the Dilts pyramid I use as models for reflection and conversation, not as diagnostic instruments. They give a conversation structure; they do not assess a person.
  • I know where the limit lies. Coaching is not psychotherapy (§ 1 (3) of the German Psychotherapy Act). When a matter belongs there, I say so – even where that ends an engagement.

I also make my methods available as free tools. Anyone who wants to know how I work need not engage me first to find out.

Self-study

I also keep learning on an ongoing basis – with specialist literature and online courses. You will find a selection in my book recommendations and online course recommendations. In addition there are the guest studies at the University of Oldenburg, where I attend lectures out of interest – without a certificate at the end.
